A Humanoid Robot Controlled by Neurofeedback to Reinforce Attention in Autism Spectrum Disorder
Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder can find very difficult focusing their attention towards activities they find less attractive than the ones they like. In this paper we will introduce a prototype designed to reinforce their mental skills through neurofeedback using EEG data and a small humanoid robot to stimulate attention towards a joint activity.
متن کاملHemispheric control of spatial attention.
According to the activation-orienting hypothesis the distribution of attention in space is biased in the direction contralateral to the more activated hemisphere. The present investigation tested this proposal and evaluated the nature of hemispheric differences in orienting control. Activation imbalance was produced by a unilateral visual stimulus. The distribution of attention was measured usi...
متن کاملControl of eye movements and spatial attention.
Several lines of evidence suggest that planning eye movements and directing visuospatial attention share overlapping brain mechanisms. This study tested whether spatial attention can be enhanced by altering oculomotor signals within the brain. Monkeys performed a spatial attention task while neurons within the frontal eye field, an oculomotor area within prefrontal cortex, were electrically sti...
متن کاملSpatial Attention and the Effects of Frontoparietal Alpha Band Stimulation
A frontoparietal network has long been implicated in top-down control of attention. Recent studies have suggested that this network might communicate through coherence in the alpha band. Here we aimed to test the effect of coherent alpha (8-12 Hz) stimulation on the frontoparietal network. To this end, we recorded behavioral performance and electroencephalography (EEG) data while participants w...
متن کاملCholinergic control of gamma power in the midbrain spatial attention network.
The modulation of gamma power (25-90 Hz) is associated with attention and has been observed across species and brain areas. However, mechanisms that control these modulations are poorly understood. The midbrain spatial attention network in birds generates high-amplitude gamma oscillations in the local field potential that are thought to represent the highest priority location for attention. Her...
